Title Paradigm with the Methodological Dimension
Authors Cengiz ANIK
Abstract The notion of paradigm which has a wide semantic field offers a frame to people in their daily lives by which common ideas, values and rules are adopted as an organizer of perception. Whereas the paradigm provides individuals a common language about conventional meanings as a poem of the values and the mental archive of the society, it has a role not only regulating but also dominating the lives. Getting rich by consistently building up new meanings, that language has a feature which lets the signs gain new paradigmatic meanings depending on the contexts in the linguistic area. As a model, the paradigm appears in the political and ideological doctrines, technical areas and even in the mythological texts and folk poems. In this paper, the meaning and importance of paradigm which has similar features in both linguistic and scientific areas is shown for the scientists and scientific studies. In this context, the meaning and features of the paradigm are clarified in terms of the popular and linguistic usage first. Then, the meaning and functions of the paradigm are handled in the scientific area. Imposing directives to people to become a part of the society by letting them feel that they belong to a place and regulating and organizing their lives within that social boundaries, the notion of paradigm takes on a mediating task for materializing the objectivity of scientific knowledge by determining the extent and boundaries of scientific works. It draws the path to be followed by the scientific communities in their methodological, epistemological and ontological studies. Despite those boundaries and rules, the scientific paradigms can change partially or wholly through scientific revolutions in a similar way that the fields of the social meanings change and evolve in time.
