Abstract The study was conducted out in field area of Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute in Samsun, in years 2008 and 2009. The materials of the study are new hybrids combinations that crossed in 2007 for hybrid maize breeding. 26 new hybrids and 3 commercial cultivars in 2008, 11 new hybrids and 5 commercial cultivars in 2009 were tested in the study. The experiments were conducted according to Complete Block Design with four (first year) and three (second year) replications. Grain yield, tasselling period, plant height, first ear height, moisture content at harvest, ratio between kernel and ear were recorded in the study. All traits were significantly different (p<0.01) among released hybrids and cultivars in every two years too. Grain yield were changed from 615 to 1325 kg da-1 and a commercial cultivar gave highest grain yield in 2008. Grain yield were changed from 656 to 1112 kg da-1 and SAMADA-07 cultivar gave highest grain yield in 2009. According to the result of the study, some new hybrids were selected for evaluate forward breeding study.
