Title Karaman Province Drought Analysis by Different Approaches

Abstract This study was aimed to determine drought of Karaman province by using SPI (Standardized Precipitation Index) RDI (Reconnaissance Drought Index) and EDI (Effective Drought Index) indices. In this reason, monthly total rainfalls measured for 1975-2009 years in Karaman Meteorological station and the ETo (reference evapotranspiration) based on FAO56 Penman-Monteitht relationship for the same years were used as materials. The cumulative monthly rainfall and monthly ETo series for four difference reference periods (k1, January-March; k2, January-June; k3, January-September; k4, January-December) belonging to each year were constituted. The SPI, RDI and EDI values were calculated by using the series of k-reference periods. These indices showed that drought period begun in last years in Karaman. According to SPI, RDI and EDI indices in Karaman province, mild drought and moderate drought categories were experienced much more.
