Title The Place of Rural Tourism in Rural Development Projects: A Review of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Crude Oil Pipeline Route

Abstract Located at the center of one of the most severe socio-economic problems in the world, regional development policies, in particular rural development policies, are developed to remedy inter-regional differences in economic and social development. The economic livelihood of the population that has a weak structure makes rural development projects more important. Ensuring rural development by preserving natural resources and cultural values, tourism plays an important role in the elimination of regional imbalances. The phenomenon of rural tourism in Turkey is gaining increasingly more value. For this reason, public institutions and organizations that support rural tourism in Turkey, international organizations, civil society organizations give supports increasingly and the number of projects is increasing intensively in many areas. The route for transfer of Caspian Basin energy resources to the world market called Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Crude Oil Pipeline, which is the subject of this work, is extremely important for the economy of Turkey. Along Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, sustainable rural development projects which are implemented under social assistance programs against environmental damage that may occur in rural areas will be examined and the solution proposals will be evaluated by examining what to do for the development of tourism in the region.
