Title Example of The Akdamar Church in The Context of Regional Development and Belief Tourism

Abstract The improvement and development difference among regions in many developed and developing countries force the governments of those countries to take measures to diminish or minimize the development difference among regions. This also leads the governments to analyze the tourism potentials among their regions well and to find out new policies related to those potentials. In this respect directing the tourism sector which has a leading role in their national income of many economically developed countries to the regions having potentials and make those ones attractive for tourism will provide positive benefits for the development of underdeveloped regions. For this aim, making places regarded as holly for their religions available for tourism, which is called belief tourism might be an effective economic factor for the regions concerned. The aim of this study is to put forward how Akdamar Church in Van province which is regarded as holly by Armenians, just made available for religious ceremonies, provides economic activities and profits with the region’s economy.
