Title Residents’ Attitudes Toward Tourism Development in Rural Tourism Areas: The Case of Cumalıkızık

Abstract Development of rural tourism can effect rural tourism area, not only economically but also environmentally and socio-cultural. Beside tourism’s positive economic influence, to be able to avoid or reduce tourism’s negative impact, planing is necessary. To be able to pan out of targeted tourism development, one of the important factors is host communities. Residents’ attitudes toward tourism’s development, activities, enterprises and tourists can produce positive or negative effects. Therefore residents’ attitudes towards tourism development should be known and in the light of this information plans should be done. The purpose of this study is to determine attitudes of the residents towards tourism development in the village of Cumalıkızık. This study can make significant contributions for a better understanding of the dynamics of the society in a rural tourism area. Research results indicate that the local community have positive attitudes towards tourism in Cumalıkızık. Local people also believe that tourists and tourism establishments have no environmental impact, but not increased public services by the tourism sector is one of the most important results of research.
