Title Becoming Modern Woman in Rural Areas through Tourism

Abstract By combining local people (land lords) and tourists (visitors), tourism causes to blend societies which have different cultural and social structures. Especially, in rural areas, due to tourism, local people encounter with urban values and advance in modernity. This study aims to submit the profiles of landladies in Gökçeada’s Yeni Bademli and Uğurlu villages and how they become modernized by tourism from an anthropological point of view. The data is gathered from interviews done with all the landladies and participatory observations made in the field.
