Title Mustafa Kutlu’s Tradition and Innovation

Abstract Mustafa Kutlu constructs his understanding of story on pre-19th century traditional story telling; making use of its culturel sources and transfers the style. His property which puts Kutlu on an original place in the Turkish Literature is his reinterpretation attitude against the tradition. Creating an allegory worl according to himself, using the narrator like Meddah in order to question his reality sensation and mentioning from Kur’an-ı Kerim to kıssa. Dede Korkut, Leyla and Mecnun, by putting his sayings on the destructive effects of social and cultural alterations in which his own people live makes his art different. With his pre-19th century Eastern story understanding which is shaped with misticism, he constructs the infrastructure of his stories by touching down cultural foundations of Eastern story telling and especially kıssa from Kur’an-ı Kerim. In the structure of the stories, there are fundamental problems like mination, modernization, the reality of the city, degeneration which the social and cultural alterations cause, society in which they live. In this study, how Mustafa Kutlu benefited from the 19th century story tradition and how he converted this tradition are exhibited by selecting theree example story “Bu Böyledir”, “Arka Kapak Yazıları” and “Mavi Kuş” and Kutlu’s art by creating allegory world, taking headaches of social and cultural alteration in which the people live as subject and analised in view of using the style of Meddah type narrator.
