Abstract The journal of Türk Kadini (Turkish Woman) published during the years of Turkish Independence War aims at systematizing the circumstances and psychology of ‘shift from ummah to nation’ at the minds of its readers. When evaluated from this point of view, it will be easily comprehended that even the title of the journal bears itself the desire of becoming a nation. The editorial staff of Türk Kadini consisting of such Turkist writers/poets as Ömer Seyfettin, Mehmet Emin Yurdakul, Şükûfe Nihal, Faruk Nafiz gives us some clues about the publishing policy in this way. Omer Seyfettin launched a language movement by uttering ‘What we speak, that’s Istanbul Turkish, is the most natural language’ at his article he wrote “Yeni Lisan” on 11 April, 1911. This understanding of language led to a literature requiring writing in the spoken Turkish immediately. Having tried to apply this tendecy into almost all the fields, Omer Seyfettin presented his article titled with “Genç Kızlarımız için Altı Derste Tabii Yazmak Sanatı (Art of Natural Writing at Six Courses for Our Young Girls)” to our female authors. Throughout this paper, the course headings of the article titled with “Genç Kızlarımız için Altı Derste Tabii Yazmak Sanatı (Art of Natural Writing at Six Courses for Our Young Girls)” will be discussed individually, the points that Omer Seyfettin stressed while explaining the understanding of writing to the women at Yeni Lisan will be assessed, and the significance of the articles at the time will be covered thoroughly.
